Daves test book
Belfast Ukulele Jam are an informal and friendly group who meet for a ukulele jamming session every Wednesday evening from 7:30pm at the Deerâs Head in Belfast. Everyone is welcome. You may have just got your first ukulele, have been playing for years, or want to come along for a drink and sing along.
We also play at local nursing homes, charities, and community events, and have performed live on TV, radio, podcasts, theatres, and festivals. Weâre available for private parties, weddings, or corporate events. Please contact us at info@belfastukejam.com for bookings.
Finally, this songbook is always a âWork in Progressâ, we continue to update it as we find out what does or does not work from our weekly jamming sessions.
Latest version of the book composed by Sean Lawlor, Chris Boomer, Dave Norton, David McClelland and Garvan Rice.

[A] She held him up, and [G] he held her for [A] ransom [G]
in the heart [A] of the cold, [G] cold city. [A] [G]
He had a nasty [D] reputation as a cruel dude,
they said [A] he was ruthless, they said he was crude,
they had one [E7] thing in common, they were good in bed.
She'd say, "[D] Faster, faster, the lights are turnin' red!"
[A] Life in the fast [G] lane, surely [A] make you lose your mind. [G]

she pretended [A] not to notice, she was caught up in the race.
Out [E7] every evening until it was light,
he was too [D] tired to make it, she was too tired to fight about it.

She said, "Listen, baby, [G] you can hear the engine ring, [G]
We've been up and [A] down this highway, [G]

He said, [D] "Call the doctor, I think I'm gonna crash.â

[Intro]
[G] [C] [G] [D] [C]
[Verse 1]
All [G] alone at the end of the [C] evening
and the [G] bright lights have faded to [C] blue.
I was [G] thinking 'bout a [B] woman who might have [Em] loved me,
but I never [D] knew.
[G] You know I've [D] always been a [G] dreamer (spend my life [C] runnin' round)
and it's [C] so hard to [G] change (can't seem to [C] settle down)
but the [C] dreams I've seen [Am] lately [C] keep on turnin' out
and [C] burnin' out and [D] turnin' out the [C] sa-[D]me.
|[Chorus]
|So [C] put me on a [G] highway and [C] show me a [G] sign
|and [C] take it to the [D] limit one more [G] time.
[Interlude]
[G] [C] [G] [D] [C]
[Verse 2]
You can [G] spend all your time making [C] money,
Or you can [G] spend all your love making [C] time.
If it [G] all fell to [B] pieces tom[Em]orrow
would you still be [D] mine?
[G] And when you're [D] looking for your [G] freedom (nobody [C] seems to care)
And you can't find the [G] door (can't find it [C] anywhere)
when there's [C] nothing to be[Am]lieve in [C] still you're coming back,
you're [C] running back, you're [D] coming back for [C] mo-[D]re.
|[Chorus]
|So [C] put me on a [G] highway and [C] show me a [G] sign
|and [C] take it to the [D] limit one mo[Em]re time.

There were lines [D] on the mirror, lines on her face,
she pretended [A] not to notice, she was caught up in the race.
Out [E7] every evening until it was light,
he was too [D] tired to make it, she was too tired to fight about it.

We've been up and [A] down this highway, [G]
haven't seen a [A] goddam thing." [G]
He said, [D] "Call the doctor, I think I'm gonna crash.â
The [A] doctor says he's coming, but you gotta pay him cash."
They went rushin' [E7] down that freeway, messed around and got lost,
[D] they didn't care they were just dying to get off.
